Over the next couple of days…I’m sharing my sweet 16! The top 16 books I read this year! Today I’m sharing my chapter book favorites!
Nine, Ten: A September 11 Story is a great middle grade book to help students understand what happened on September 11th. Nora Raleigh Baskin does a wonderful job weaving three different stories together. A great read aloud for fourth grade and up.
In Finding Perfect Molly’s mother has just left for a far away job for a year. Molly is determined to make everything perfect so her mom returns. But everything is not perfect as Molly’s inner world starts to spiral out of control. A moving book about OCD and mental health. A must-read!
If you are a book nerd and love to read than this is the book for you! Sophie Quire is a lover of books and the heroine in this wonderful quest. I think fans of Harry Potter or Fantasy/Adventure in general will enjoy this book.
The Poet’s Dog is a beautiful book that has my heart. If you love dogs and poetry than this is the book for you! Make sure to read this gem on a lazy winter day. It is a heart breaker and mender.
I love this whole series by Liesl Shurtliff but I’ve decided that Red: The True Story of Red Riding Hood is my favorite of the trio. I just love the character Red and especially her interactions with Goldie. And this book starts with one of the best first lines: “The first time I tried my hand at magic, I grew roses out of my nose.” Now you know you want to read the rest of the book, don’t you?!
So which chapter books did you love in 2016? Have a Happy New Year and Happy Reading!
